If you login to your control panel and try to open your File Manager, you will get a popup that says: 'optionselect-content' id is missing

Simply click OK to make the mini popup to go away and proceed as usual. This is a problem that the makers of cpanel is aware of as of last night's updates that came down to each server. They are reporting that they have the bug fix created and it will come down in tonight's updates which typically start at around 10pm and run through the night, server by server.

Received a bill in the mail regarding your domains?

If you have a website, then you have a domain name, like "thedesignshoppe.com". To own a domain, you have to renew it annually (some choose to renew for several years at a time). But, there are a lot of scams out there you need to be careful of when it comes to the renewal of your domain.

Things to watch out for:

Anything sent via the old fashioned post office. Scammers often send letters in the mail. A legit company communicates it's renewal notifications via email. Make sure your domain company has a good email address on file for you.
The letter asks for a check or money order — real domain companies prefer to work with credit cards.
The letter will be friendly but use rather scary language. They might imply that if you don't pay up now, your site will go down and you might loose the domain name for good.
Someone calls you out of the blue, claiming that you're about to lose your domain name. Real domain companies don't make renewal phone calls.

These companies, like Liberty Domains of America and Domain Registry of America, prey upon ignorance and fear. If you ever have doubts or questions about the legitimacy of a letter, call or email regarding your domain, you can look up for yourself where your domain is registered and when it expires with a Whois lookup. Don't include the "www." part, just "thedesignshoppe.com".

In there, you will find the registrar, which is your domain company and the only one to whom you should pay for renewals, unless you're specifically choosing to change registrars. You'll also find your expiration date, so you can verify that it really is coming up. If we are your domain registrar, then rest assured your domains are safe and you will receive email notices at 25 and 10 days prior to expiration. We have double security on your domains -- all domains are locked and each domain needs an authorization code to transfer out. Without both of those, nothing can be done to take your domain from you.

Of course, if you have any questions, please submit a help ticket and we're more than happy to answer your questions regarding your domains.

For those that are on monthly credit card payments, we were just notifed by Authorize.net, our credit card gateway company, there will be downtime on processing.

You may receive a "credit card failed" notice and even a "credit card overdue" notice during that time. Everything will be back to normal for processing after the below listed time.

Here's the information:

On Sunday, July 15, 2007, from 8:00 PM until approximately 11:30 PM Pacific Time, we will be implementing planned payment gateway updates. During this time, the payment gateway, Merchant Interface, and all other system functionality will be inaccessible for transaction processing.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience as we work to enhance the payment gateway. We expect that upon the successful implementation of these updates, all future payment gateway maintenance will require less than an hour's downtime.

Tonight, 06/14/07, we will be replacing one of the hard drives on this server. Your sites will be unavailable during this time so we will not start until 10pm EST. It will take us several hours. Please do not work on your sites starting at about 9pm EST because the changes you make will not be kept as the backups will be processed before we start.

UPDATE: 06.15.07
All sites are up and have not been down. We are aware this is causing some issues with you gaining access to mail and your control panels. Please bear with us as it is taking longer than expected. We are still working on it. Some of the sites were very large so we were moving them all manually. We've taken extra precautions so that web sites would not be down for your visitors. The only issues are with you accessing to make changes, logging in to your control panels and access webmail.

We will keep you updated here.

UPDATE: 6:00pm EST:
We're currently deep into the usernames beginning with T. You should be able to log in no matter where the account is resolving. This is just like picking up a book, walking it across the room, and setting it down on a table. The book is exactly the same, only the location is different. If for some reason you are running a php-based application that requires register_globals to be on, that's likely the problem, since this is a new server and globals are off by default. You should be able to login to everything else at this time IF your user name comes before T.

More updates to come.

ACE server - email

We worked FOREVER with the makers of cpanel to fix the password incompatibility between cpanel 10 and 11 affecting email. Every time we thought we found the problem, it lead to something else, etc. Clients have been reporting that mail is now downloading fine so we know it's all working. It was a TON of checking, editing, checking again, testing temp accounts we setup and then edit some more, test some more... on and on and on.

All of this looked like one big problem, but it was actually two separate issues and unfortunately close enough in time for some to think it was one. One was the server problem that we solved. Second was the cpanel 10 to 11 upgrade incompatibility. Trust me.. if we knew that we were going to be forced to put cpanel 11 on now knowing the quirks - we would have pleaded for a version lower than 11 (if at all an option). We did not know all the problems they were still having with mail prior to getting started. There are a lot of little quirks that they still need to work out by cpanel which is why we turned off cpanel updates for the other servers we have temporarily. Unfortunately we had no choice for the ACE server sine technically this was a move to a brand new server and the only version out there is cpanel 11 right now.

Thank you for bearing with us. I know this was hard and even harder on us knowing how it was affecting so many not being able to get to your email.

ACE server clients - problem revisited

Thursday has been quite the day for us here and our clients on the ACE server. Those that have submitted help tickets have been updated throughout the day.

Long story short, we had one client on the server that had a program on their web site that was writing badly to the server through mySQL to the point it was shutting down the server. To keep everyone online that does not use a database, we quickly shut down mySQL across the board on this particular server. Those that have an html or php site not using mySQL, simply stayed online with no issue. Those that are using a program as their whole site (ie: cart, message board, etc) were down with an error message that their database was not connected.

Rather than waste more time scouring through to see who the culprit database was, we moved clients one by one to yet another server clusted with ACE so again, we had no site downtime to see what program it was as we moved each.

The problem we ran into was that cpanel decided to release the cpanel 11 version to us while we were using version 10. Version 10 and 11 do not communicate well with one another so we had to manually move each and every client and all contents which was very time consuming. This is why it took all 5 of us almost all day to do.

Cpanel 11 is something that we've personally waited excitedly on for a long time, but new things do not come without some quirks that cause us extra work. When you now login to your control panels you will see it looks different along with some new things.

For now, please login to your control panels if you are using any databases and re-add your database users + passwords the same as they are set in each config file of any program you are running. Do not forget to also give permission to those database users to that specified database and you are done. This will take minutes to do.

If you have a site that does not have a shopping cart, message board, links directory, poll, etc., then you have to do nothing. Your site is fine.

As of 1am EST, we still have about another hour to run some backups. If you can get in - go ahead. If you cannot, please wait and recheck it within a few minutes.

If you need more help - submit a help ticket.

Thank you!

Cpanel 11 releases

Just FYI:

All servers will eventually have the cpanel 11 version in use. Right now only 2 are using it. This will not affect your web sites functionality other than you will see some addition items listed in the control panels and things may look a little different.

The main concern is as follows:

We are getting indications that forwarders are now case sensitive after the cpanel upgrade, so you would need to test it as I have indicated.

So, be sure when you are emailing someone that you email them like this: theirname@theirwebsites.com and not TheirName@TheirWebsites.com

Thank you!
